St Martin’s Courtyard
12th April 2011 (10 months ago)
St Martin’s Courtyard is a new mixed use development of a previously underutilised area in the heart of Covent Garden, providing high quality retail, restaurant, office and residential accommodation. The central feature of the development is a new public open space entered from Long Acre, Upper St Martin’s Lane ane Mercer Street and lined with shops and restaurants, the latter grouped around a landscaped outdoor eating area.
We were originally appointed as Strategic Architects by the joint venture partners, Shaftesbury and The Mercers Company, to develop an overall framework for a phased development of building and infrastructure works. We were then commissioned to design two major buildings on the site. This was followed by an intensive construction programme including a new mixed use building with offices, luxury apartments and restaurants, one of which will be occupied by Jamie’s Italian. Our other major project on the site incorporates a Victorian industrial unit with fashion shops fronting onto Long Acre and a new office extension above. This building runs along one side of the pedestrian way leading into the central courtyard.
St Martin’s Courtyard will open to the public in summer 2010.
