Station Rise
The site, an old car wash parallel to a main line railway, may appear at first glance to have little development potential but an exciting mixed use scheme has been designed and received full planning approval.
Part of the site contains a small parade of mews houses off a cobbled street, all of which has been retained and refurbished. The building facing the railway, a corrugated metal roofed shed, has been demolished and replaced with a three storey building of contemporary apartments and ground floor retail.
Nine apartments are designed over three floors with all apartments having some outdoor space. The ground floor units are set around gardens and courtyards and all the residential units are accessed through a gated entrance to the mews.
The new elevations, of coloured render, have sloping parapets and provide a dynamic image when viewed from the trains.
The definition of new and old is retained and emphasised producing a scheme of energy and interest.
